Luau Party Games
- The hula is the most popular dance style in Hawaii and is a crucial party element for any luau. To enhance the fun, have crafts available to let your guests make their own grass skirts and use a dance instructor to teach the hula to your guests. For information on the necessary elements for making your own grass skirts, see the Resources section.
- The coconut is a perfect size and shape for a make-shift bowling ball, and because it is a tropical fruit, it enhances the theme of the luau. To play, remove the labels from 10 old plastic soda bottles (20-oz. bottles work best). Further your luau theme by filling the bottles with a mixture of sand, seashells and lei flowers. Coconut bowling is a surprisingly fun luau party game that will keep your guests entertained for hours.
- The limbo is always a fun choice for a luau. A simple touch such as adding some great Polynesian music to the dance can really push it over the top. And while Polynesian music CDs may not be available in your local music stores, you can purchase them online through several retailers, including Amazon.com and www.mele.com. Mele.com is the world's largest supplier of authentic Hawaiian music. The prices range from $5 to $20, and there are hundreds of CDs to choose from. Whether you are doing the limbo, coconut bowling or dancing the hula, no luau party will be complete without the essential element of authentic Hawaiian music.
