How to Reciprocate a Pharmacy License in Mississippi
- 1). Obtain a "Preliminary Application for Transfer of Pharmacist Licensure" form from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. Fill out the application completely and submit it to the NABP for approval. Once the national board has reviewed your pharmacist license, education and history and determined you meet Mississippi's criteria, you will receive an official application by mail to transfer your pharmacist license.
- 2). Submit your completed official application to the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy, along with verification of your education and a licensing fee. You will also have to pass a criminal background check and, if the state board asks, appear for a personal interview.
- 3). Submit official academic transcripts if, as occasionally happens, the board asks for those. Contact your university or college to have those transcripts sent directly from the institution. If your university or college is not on the pre-approved list of pharmacy programs, your coursework cannot be verified through other means. Also, your educational information previously submitted to NABP might have been incomplete.
- 4). Request that verification of your current license be sent to the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy. You will ask the board of pharmacy in the state where you currently practice to do this.
- 5). Notify the board of pharmacy in your current state that you do not intend to practice pharmacy in that state anymore once you receive licensure in Mississippi. In general, you are not allowed to hold an active pharmacy license in more than one state, and although record of your licensure will be retained, your name and license number will be removed from the active registry.
- 6). Register to take any required examinations, as determined by the NABP and Mississippi Board of Pharmacy. Most often pharmacist licensure transfer applicants are required to take the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination, but this can vary depending upon your credentials.
- 7). Wait four to six weeks to receive the results of your exam and the Mississippi board's review of your application for license transfer. If you have successfully completed all of the requirements, the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy will issue you a license to practice as a pharmacist in Mississippi. If any part of the application is incomplete, information cannot be verified, or you did not pass the required exam, you will receive notification of this along with instructions for fixing the problems.
