Location

• Before you set up your hammock stand, choose the right location. A level spot that provides even footing will prevent the stand from toppling over, and help ensure the safety of anyone attempting to enter the hammock. Also, take note of the amount of sun around the hammock and the air flow. Placing a hammock closer to a hedge or wall will reduce breezes. Of course, because of the mobility of a hammock stand, you can choose a new spot for your hammock by simply moving the stand.
  
  

Spreader Bar Stands

• Before putting the stand together, verify that your stand is compatible with your hammock type. For example, a Mayan-style hammock will not hang from a stand made for a spreader-bar hammock. First, set the distance between the ends of the hammock stand by moving the metal pegs up and down. Move the pegs higher for a longer hammock and lower for a shorter hammock. Note that the two ends must be at least as far apart as the length of the hammock itself. Next, insert the provided metal chain into the metal pegs with an s-hook. Finally, hook the s-hook at the dangling end of the chain into the metal loops on the ends of the hammock. Test the hammock, and if necessary, tighten or loosen the hammock by moving the pegs up and down.
  
  

Non-Spreader Stands

• Unlike a spreader bar hammock, the distance between the ends of a stand for a non-spreader hammock, that is, a hammock without a wooden spreader bar at each end, only need to be about two-thirds the length of the hammock. To hang, simply insert the ends of the hammock into the appropriate space at the top of both sides of the stand. The hammock material itself will catch the loops on the stand, with no need for any metal hardware. The hammock will not tear, as it is designed for this type of use.
