How do I Pay Child Support Directly to an Ex in California?
- 1). Create a written agreement with your ex regarding how and when child support payments will be made. If you do not already have a court order regarding the amount of child support due, be sure to include this amount in your agreement. If you do have a court order, the payment amount should remain the same unless you choose to file for a modification. Have both parties--and their attorneys if applicable--sign this agreement, and it is best to have it notarized.

Have your ex-spouse or the other parent of your child contact the California Central Registry or the Child Support Enforcement Office where he lives and request that the agency close your child support case. Note that this will only close the case with the Central Registry and will not modify court orders in any way.
- 3). Begin making child support payments directly to your ex, being sure to carefully document the date a payment was sent and the amount sent on that date. Maintain communication with your ex to verify that he received the payment. If your court order requires any other sort of support, such as payments made to third parties for things that include school expenses, be sure to document that information as well.
