How to Clean a Black Ribbed Outdoor Drain That is Clogged
- 1). Remove the downspouts to gain access to the pipe and check for clogs at the entry point.
- 2). Wear gloves and reach in to remove any buildup of mud, leaves and debris.
- 3). Place a garden hose into the pipe and turn the water on to the highest pressure setting. Poke and prod at the clog in an attempt to dislodge it.
- 4). Run a drain snake into the clog if the garden hose does not work. Stab at the clog and try to push through the clog. Run water from a garden hose often to check if the clog frees. Contrary to popular belief, you will not poke a hole through the drainage pipe with a snake.
- 5). Install a pressure nozzle on the end of the hose or use a pressure washer. Feed the hose in as far as possible, turn the water on and allow the pressurized water to push the clog through the pipe.
