How to get a job working for Walmart or Sam's Club

    • 1). Consider whether you are a good fit for Walmart or Sam's Club, Walmart's warehouse stores. Most Walmart positions are associate jobs in their stores. These are good entry-level, non-management positions. While pay is not high and full time jobs can take a while to get, Walmart offers a great opportunity to learn the retail business and get medical insurance coverage.

      There are many other jobs with Walmart you may want to consider. These include:

      -- Store management
      -- Pharmacy and optical (offers scholarships to students pursuing degrees in these fields. See link at the end of this article on pharmacy technician/assistant jobs)
      -- Logistics jobs in regional distribution centers
      -- Corporate jobs, mostly in Walmart headquarters in Arkansas
      -- Truck drivers

    • 3). Apply online or obtain an application from the store where you want to work. Remember that appearance counts when you ask for an application form! Make sure you are well groomed. Try not to wear excessive jewelry, wild tee shirts, or flip flops.

      Carefully fill in your application. Describe your background and what types of jobs you are interested in. Stress experience relevant to Walmart or Sam's Club's jobs. Neatness counts as does spelling. have a friend proof read your application before you send it in.

    • 4). If your application is of interest to Walmart, you will be called for an interview.
      -- Show up on time and be presentable.
      -- Try to note how other Walmart workers are dressed to see if there is anything about their attire/hair/etc that you may want to assume for your interview. Be pleasant and positive.
      -- Express your interest in Walmart and state how you want to work hard and learn the business.

    • 5). So what if you don't get the job? Here's some tips you might want to try:

      -- Walmart does a lot of seasonal hiring, especially in November/December. While many of these jobs are temporary, if you work hard you could be kept on as a permanent employee.

      -- Look for new store grand openings.

      -- Talk to an employment coach to review your application to see whether it could be improved. Sometimes there are key phrases and words that can be added to get your application noticed.

    • 6). Once you get a job with Walmart, your future is in your hands. To get promoted and move up in the company, work hard, show up on time, and prove you are reliable and you show you are reliable. Volunteer for other jobs and hours that need to be filled. Be available to fill in for workers who miss their shifts.
