Upholstery Cleaning Is Your Furnitures Best Friend

It is true that not all fabrics are created equally.  Synthetics can be steam cleaned while most natural fibers, cotton for one, are best solvent cleaned.  Though steam cleaning is more aggressive with superior results, there are fabrics that don't allow this process to be used without causing damage. Whichever method is used, both remove harmful allergens from your upholstery.  These allergens, if not removed, can trigger allergic reactions in some people making them uncomfortable affecting their health.  I.I.C.R.C. certified technicians are highly trained and know which process to use on a particular fabric.   There are sometimes when several methods are used on a sofa, love seat, and chair to make them all look the same when completed.  These results always make the customer happy.

This is how certified upholstery cleaners will clean your upholstery for appearance and health.

Steam Cleanable Fabrics

1. Pre-inspect for material type, condition, colorfastness, stains, and overall soiling to achieve the cleaning results the client is looking for.

2. Prepare the area around the floor to protect surrounding furnishings.

3. Pre-treat heavily soiled areas (ex: arms and seat cushions) where applicable.

4. We then lightly agitate to loosen stains and soil.

5. Complete clean water rinse, using low moisture techniques, and extraction to remove soil and stains, leaving upholstery clean, fresh smelling, and almost dry to the touch.

6. Finally, we use a soft brush to set the fabrics nap in one direction to assure soft and proper drying.

Note: If the cushion is unzipped, the back of the fabric should be damp, but the filling must be dry.  Dry time should be about 1 to 2 hours.  Never remove cushion covers and put in a washing machine as this may cause permanent damage!

Dry Cleaning Solvent Only Upholstery Fabrics

We take steps 1 thru 4 as in the above method.  Sometimes we use a special machine to rinse and extract the furniture.  Other times we apply liberal amounts of solvent and remove it with a clean white cotton towel.  As always, we brush the nap in one direction to assure soft and proper drying.

When cleaning upholstery, the fabric type will directly determine the best and safest way to clean it and what results you might expect.
