How to Write a Poem About Fall Colors
- 1). Evaluate your mood; your feelings will shade your descriptive words as you write. Try the Japanese poetry form of haiku if you are feeling philosophical. Haiku is short and simple, but often provides an insight. Write words that come to mind about fall colors, such as red, yellow, orange, vibrant or crunchy. Arrange your words or ideas in three lines, the first containing five syllables, the second seven syllables and the third five syllables.
- 2). Use a poetry form utilized by other poets, but insert your own words. Consider images that come to mind about the fall season. Write about how the colors of the leaves make you think of the bonfire you attended at the beginning of autumn. Write the refrain line twice. Write two descriptive details about fall after the first and second refrains. Write two words describing how you feel about the season after the third refrain.
- 3). Try a cinquain. This is a five-line poem in which the first line is the subject, and the following four lines describe the subject. Use two adjectives for the second line, three gerunds for the third line, a short complete sentence for the fourth line and a personal synonym for the fifth line. The synonym you choose may surprise you, and give you a peek into your mood.
