Poker Book Sales Drop While Poker Training Sites Profit
Poker book publishing companies are starting to complain that their book sales way are down.
Just the other day Mason Malmuth of Two Plus Two Publishing urged moderators on their popular poker forum to remove sticky threads to posts that contained too much good information as it is hurting their book selling division.
Is this a result of less new poker players wanting to read books? Unlikely.
Poker Video Training Sites are on the rise, as this is becoming the preferred way for players to learn how to play poker.
These sites are run by winning online poker players and contain much better analysis on how to win the game then you would get from a book written many years back.
Many of the books do not address online poker strategy, which is completely different then playing a live game.
Players online are much more aggressive and can't rely on "poker tells" like their offline counterparts.
Poker Training Sites allow you to watch a winning player walk you through a game as they play it online.
They tell you how they are thinking at each play, which helps new players achieve a winning mindset in a much shorter time.
The videos deal with all the different types of online games, such as: heads-up poker, 6 Max Sit N Go's, Multi-table Tournaments, and cash games.
The videos cover all the different games including Texas Holdem, 5 Card Draw, 7 Card Stud and the increasingly popular Omaha Poker game.
Unlike books, which deal more with poker theory, the video sites let the reader view the game through the eyes of the player.
This doesn't mean that all books are bad.
There are still many poker books that players should read as they teach a lot of the fundamentals of the game that some of the videos sites don't do a great job covering.
As the popularity of online poker continues to grow, these new poker training sites aren't just a fad, they are here to stay.
So book publishers, be warned, it may be time to adapt your business.
