Made in Heaven - Kerala Honeymoons
Sachin, my friend who hails from Mumbai, was about to get married in last November. Back in July itself, his engagement got fixed and there started the days of pre-marriage romance – counting days in and out, spending evenings with his fiancé in Juhu Beach and Mocha. One such day, I was loitering around Juhu beach and stumbled upon these two. A two minutes chat took us to one of their top discussion topics – where to go for honeymoon? One hour analysis ended up with some of the most famous destinations in the world – Mauritius, Himalayas, Kerala, Darjeeling, Swiss, Thailand, Singapore and many more. But more importantly, much more were the confusions around which one to choose among these. We left the place undecided, but I promised to revert the following week with my pick to plan their honeymoon.
A week's research among friends, relatives and especially cyber-space put things very clear in front of me; the most suited destination for honeymoon is here – it's Kerala, the ‘God's Own Country'. There were umpteen reasons to arrive at this conclusion,
• Kerala has a very beautiful and unique topography – Western Ghats on the East, Arabian Sea towards the West and between them, numerous beautifully laid out backwater strips, lakes and lagoons •
• Kerala is nature's abode, ubiquitous greenery, blended with both tropical beauty and amicable climate throughout the year
• No other destination in the world has a blend of so much to offer – beaches, hill stations, waterfalls, backwaters and what not?
• Most of the Kerala honeymoon packages can include all of the above because of their proximity of not more than 3 to 4 hours to travel from one to the other
• Last but not the least, the tourism industry in Kerala is so matured that the kind of hospitality someone who is on honeymoon tours Kerala is incomparable
A honeymoon in Kerala cannot get a better start than a private evening followed by a candle light dinner on a houseboat in enchanting backwaters of Alleppey. From the airport of Cochin city, Alleppey is not more than 90 minutes drive on NH 47. The next destination could be the other end of backwaters – Kumarakom. Here you encounter some of the world's most beautiful resorts, incomparable hospitality, mouth watering coastal delicacies and most importantly, the essence of traditional Kerala folklore. After concluding three nights in backwaters, when you move past the lakes & lagoons of Kumarakom and Alleppey, there you step-in to the next phase of Honeymoon Tours in Kerala at Thekkady. The other name of Thekkady is Periyar – name signifying the largest river. Periyar offers a vast diverse of flora and fauna, rare as unfound in the rest of the world. One of the attractions that honeymooners love here is an early morning boating in Periyar lake. From Thekkady, there comes the best of all destinations in Kerala – Munnar. It's about 3 hours on road to Munnar. For most, this journey would prove as one of the most panoramic one they have ever taken in a lifetime. Munnar is rated as the second most beautiful destinations in the world by travelers across the world – through the reputed online travel portal; Trip Advisor. An evening overlooking the valley from the balcony and the fresh morning, sipping a hot coffee is something honeymooners die for ever. Generally Kerala honeymoon packages get concluded at Cochin, the heritage city of Kerala, ruminating the reminiscences of French, Dutch and Portuguese colonial invasions in India. Boarding a flight back to Mumbai by late evening, I am sure Sachin and his fiancé would love their honeymoon in Kerala forever.
