Patrick Partouche Faces Controversy
Paratouche was hurt by the criticisms of players who stated that there was a ‚¬700,000 cash prize shortfall. He stated, during the events of day three of the current running tour, that himself, the staff and his family were upset by the reactions, stating that the tournament in Cannes would be the last PPT event. Instead of respecting responsibility for the negligence, Partouche shifted the blame onto young players with a lot of ego and in need of recognition, who have not even made the final table and call [the company] cheats and thieves.€
Disregarding evidence that clearly pointed to the contrary, Partouche insisted that there had never been a guaranteed prize pool of 5 million. He put the apparent misunderstanding down to announcements made at the conclusion of the 2011 Main Event and Sam Trickett's win. Partouche recognised this as a "clumsy and euphoric bit of communication.€
Along with the thousands of screen shots which disprove Partouche's statements, French poker pro Nicolas Levi also posted a video onto YouTube which gives clear evidence against the company's claims. The video is an excerpt from a poker TV programme which shows the marketing director of Groupe Partouche, Jean-Jacques Ichai announcing the fact that Partouche is guaranteeing 5 million in the Season 5 main event.
In response to the controversy, Ichai allegedly posted a message on the PPT's Facebook page in which he took full responsibility and announced his immediate resignation. This message has since been withdrawn from the website.
Outraged by the events, several poker players have taken to social networking sites to voice their disapproval of the company. David Vamplew, who participated in the PPT main event on day three, tweeted: Patrick Partouche press conference start of today, saying €he's not honouring 5m gtd and cancelling€. Justin Bonomo also stated on Twitter: everyone at Partouche expected a 5 million guaranteed prize pool. Staff is saying it was never guaranted. I found proof€. He concluded his tweet with a link to a website covering Sam Trickett's Season 4 main event victory, in which the article says: ‰„ee you next year for season 5 of the Partouche Poker Tour, this time with a guaranteed prize pool of 5 million Euros! Bonomo has also accused the company of removing all evidence against them from the website.
Patrick Partouche has said that there will be disturbance to the 2013 International Stadiums Poker Tour event at Wembley.
