Parenting is not easy.
Those who tell you otherwise do not know what they are talking about.
In fact, it is one of the hardest and most stressful jobs in the world.
It is not enough to feed and clothe the kids.
It is so much more than that.
You have to ensure that they turn out happy and become responsible individuals not only to themselves but to others.
However, parenting doesn't have to be a difficult ordeal.
In fact parents do not lie when they tell you that parenting is a joy.
It is not a hallmark card line.
It is true! You just have to know how to manage and deal with parenting stress.
Then you can spend more time focusing on the enjoying your children, rather than being overwhelmed by the role of parenting.
Here are three ways to start to get a handle on the situation.
1.
Take some time for yourself.
One of the more effective ways is to give yourself some "me" time.
A "me" time is time you give yourself without the kids.
The rule is just to have fun and relax minus the kids.
This sounds easy but it is actually quite challenging because you will find yourself doing chores that needed to be done.
There will always be things to be done.
It never ends so do yourself a favor and give yourself that much needed and well-deserved break.
There are many things you can do with your "me" time.
You can shop and buy yourself clothes.
You can watch a movie, get a haircut or go to a spa.
You can even read a book at a park all by yourself, if that is what you want to do.
You can do all these and more.
2.
Keep your cool.
Easier said than done, right? However, it's important to know that giving into a flaring temper will create more tension in the home, which will only make you more agitated.
When the problem starts and the stress gets to you, remove yourself from the situation.
Sometimes counting from 1-10 helps and do not forget to take deep breathes in between.
If it does not improve the situation at all, have someone take care of your child for a few minutes to an hour depending on how long it would take for you to calm down.
3.
Don't bring stress home from work.
Sometimes, it is not parenting stress that is bugging you out at home but the problems that you have at work.
Never bring the problems you have at the office to your home and vice versa.
Do not make it harder on yourself than it already is.
Find a way to wind down after work.
Take some deep breaths or, if you have the time, go for a walk.
It doesn't really matter what technique you use.
As long as you can mentally leave your work pressure outside the home, you'll find it easier to stay calm in tense situations at home.
