Have you ever noticed that after long periods of focused reading or staring at the computer screen, your eyes get strained, and you noticed that for a short period of time, you're unable to see as clearly as you normally can?  After you take a break from your work, get some rest, and let your eyes relax, you find that you can see better again. This experience will differ from person to person - the more strained your eyes become, and the longer you fixate your eyesight on the computer screen, the more you will notice this vision problem.

When your eyes, mind, and body are relaxed, you will naturally see better. By periodically relaxing your eyes throughout the day, you reduce the strain and stress you place on them.

One of the pioneers of natural remedy to improve vision using eye exercises is Dr. William Bates (1860 - 1931). He had attributed majority of eyesight problems to the strains placed on eyes. While his methods for improving eyesight are controversial in the scientific community, there seems to be plenty of anecdotal evidence of positive results of eyesight improvement through eye exercises.

One of the most widely practiced eye exercise is Palming. Palming eye exercise is one of the best fundamental ways of complete relaxing your eyes. This exercise can be done almost anywhere, and it only takes several minutes to perform.
  • You can perform this exercise sitting at your desk
  • Start by warming up your palms by rubbing them against each other
  • Take your hands and cover up your eyes with each palm - slightly form a cup shape with your hands so that they are not touching your eyes and close your eyes
  • You should now see total darkness
  • Keep your palms covering your eyes, and completely relax your entire body

Palming like this is one of the best eye exercise to relax your eyes, and can help improve your vision, especially during times of high stress and strain. So the next time you find yourself stressed out, feeling strained, and having some vision problems, take a timeout to perform the palming eye exercise. It will help you relax your eyes.
