How to Make a Pop Up Nursery Rhyme Book
- 1). Select a nursery rhyme. Separate the rhyme into sections for each page. For each page of text, choose an image or illustration to be used as a pop up for the page. Determine how many pop ups will be on each page and where they will be placed.
- 2). Create each inside page of the book. Fold a piece of construction paper in half width-wise so the short ends touch. For each pop up on the page, start at the outside crease and cut two lines, 1 inch long and 1 inch apart, perpendicular to the fold, to form tab. The lines should look as follows, with the crease being on the bottom: l__l
- 3). Open the piece of paper, and pull up the tab until it pops out into a square. When the paper is closed, the fold in the tab should be inside the page and pressed down away from the folded crease. When closed, the paper with the cut tab should look as follows:
______l l______ - 4). Add the nursery rhyme text below the tab(s) on the bottom half of the paper. Illustrate the top half of the paper above the tab with your background.
- 5). Create and attach the pop up images to the tabs. Use one image for each tab, and glue the bottom of the image onto the protruding tab. Continue for each pop up until all of the tabs have a picture. When the page is opened, the tab will pop up, lifting the picture.
- 6). Glue the book together, keeping each page of the book folded as you glue. Attach the sequential pages by gluing the back of the bottom page to the back of the next top page. For example, the top cover of page two would be glued to the bottom cover of page one.
- 7). Create a cover using a piece of construction paper that is one inch bigger than the book's pages. Fold the paper in half and illustrate the outside of the top half of the page.
- 8). Attach the cover to the rest of the book. Glue the inside of the front cover to the back of the top first page of the book. Then glue the inside of the back cover to the bottom last page of the book.
