How to Repair Concrete Defects
- 1). Sweep your concrete floor to remove all surface dust and dirt. This will make your repair work easier.
- 2). Repair any projections larger than 1/16 inch. Use a concrete grinder or chisel and hammer to remove these protrusions. Sweep again or use a wet/dry vacuum to remove any chips or dust created by this process.
- 3). Flatten and deepen any crevices or cracks in the surface with a chisel and hammer. Chip and chisel so all damaged areas are at least 1 inch deep. Flatten the sides of the crack or chip so that you create a relatively smooth surface, which will make repairs easier.
- 4). Clean all debris from the chiseling with a wire brush and vacuum or broom. The area must be completely clean; debris can ruin the bond between the repair work and the concrete.
- 5). Mix a concrete epoxy repair compound per product instructions. Different products will require different additives and curing times, so follow all instructions carefully.
- 6). Paint a layer of bonding adhesive onto the entire damaged area, using a paintbrush. This will help seal the damaged area and the repair work.
- 7). Apply the repair epoxy into the damaged area with a flat mason's trowel. Smooth the repair work over the surface to keep it flush with the surface. Allow the patch to cure per product instructions.
