Year after year, the number of people suffering from hair loss increases. It has been quite a common problem for men and women of various ages. It affects not only the health of people but also their self-esteem and the way they deal with people. A lot of people have misconceptions on the causes of hair loss and how to treat it. Thus, in an attempt to solve their hair problems, they end up losing more hair and money. So what shall a wise consumer do? Get to the root of the problem - the culprit? DHT.

DHT or Dihydrotestosterone is considered to be the no.1 cause of hair loss in men and women. It is caused by the contact of the skin and scalp enzyme with testosterone when this happens, it breaks the cycle necessary for robust hair growth by taking over the cell and sending wrong signals to the brain. This reduces the follicles of hair to a small size that induce hair fall.

The effect of DHT varies in men and women. DHT hair loss in men occurs in patches while women it happens through thinning of the hair. This is more common in male than in females because men have more testosterone. It is a main cause of balding among men.

However, a recent study show that it is not only DHT is responsible for hair loss. Though it causes androgenetic alopecia, 5ar or 5 alpha reductase turns testosterone into DHT but that's not all. There is also 3kr which performs the same function. So it will be best not to cling only to those products that treat DHT alone.

If you are one of the people affected by DHT, fret not. You can spend countless amount of money on concealers of hair baldness, shampoos which promises hair growth, wigs and all that - but it is still best to go to the root of the problemblock DHT.

There are many ways to treat DHT. Some products take the anti-inflammatory approach to lessen itching that worsen hair loss. Others use growth stimulants. There are also treatments that use antiandrogens which disturbs the combination of DHT with androgen. And of course, there are DHT inhibitors. These makes a balance between the falling of the hair and the re-growth process by stabilizing the DHT levels - thus, lessening hair loss.

Many people - majority are men - lose hair as they age. It depends on many factors: stress, your diet, genes, pollution and DHT. As I've said in the above paragraph, Hair loss cause by DHT can be treated with the use of DHT blockers. There are many products out there in the market which promises re-growth of hair but only a few of them blocks DHT.

So, if you've tried almost everything in the market that promises you less hair loss, and changed your diet and minimized your stress levels but it still doesn't work, the cause of the thinning or balding of your hair may be DHT. Try consulting a trusted dermatologist near you for best treatment.
