How to Keep Denim Dark

    • 1). Save your super-dark jeans for events where you want to look nice. Wearing your dark jeans every day will necessitate that you wash them more frequently. Preserve the dark coloring in your jeans by limiting their time in the laundry. Spot clean any major stains using cold water. Reserve washing your jeans for when they are dirty or smelly; otherwise, just hang them back in the closet.

    • 2). Use cold water and a delicate wash cycle if you must wash your jeans. Turn the jeans inside out to shield some of the color loss, and use a mild detergent specially formulated for dark rinse clothing. Heavy denim fabric weakens lighter fabrics by beating against them in the wash cycle. Only wash your denim with other denim to protect delicate or lightweight clothing materials.

    • 3). Dry your jeans on a hanger or clothing line. Using a standard clothes dryer causes friction between the jeans and the machine. Hanging them to air dry also reduces the amount of shrinkage. Dryer heat also weakens the fabric and reduces the coloring over time. If you must dry your jeans, run them in the dryer on low-tumble for 15 minutes.
