Updated September 21, 2014.
Definition:
This is a minimally invasive operation to remove the gallbladder. The surgeon inserts a laparoscope and other surgical instruments through small incisions in the abdominal wall. The camera allows the doctor to see the gallbladder on a television screen and remove it surgically through a smaller incision than is usual with traditional "open" cholecystectomy.
