Remove the Bathtub

• 1). Disconnect the pipes that go to the bathtub faucets. Depending on your house, you may have to access these through a panel in an adjoining room. Turn off the shut-off valves that should be built into the pipes near the floor before disconnecting anything.
  
  
• 2). Remove the faucets from the pipes in preparation for attaching the washing machine hoses to the same pipes. Disconnect the drain.
  
  
• 3). Cut through the caulking that seals the bathtub to the wall and floor using a utility knife. If the bathtub is a freestanding or claw-foot bathtub, you should be able to pull it out without any cutting. Get some help; iron bathtubs are very heavy.
  
  
• 4). Remove any tile that may be installed over the lip of your bathtub. When all of this has been cleared away, pull the bathtub out.
  
  
• 5). Fill in the hole where the bathtub was with wall covering or tile to match what is on the wall above the bathtub. Clean up any mess before bringing in the washing machine.
  
  

Install the Washing Machine

• 1). Place the washing machine close to the place where it will be installed, but pulled out from the wall far enough so you can work behind it.
  
  
• 2). Attach the drainpipe that protrudes from the washing machine to the drain that was formerly connected to the bathtub.
  
  
• 3). Attach the washing machine pipes to the pipes that were formerly connected to the bathtub faucets. Depending on what type of washing machine you have, this may require nuts and an adjustable wrench, some Teflon tape, and some brass washers. Consult the owner's manual for your washing machine. Be sure to attach the hot water hose to the hot water pipe and the cold water hose to the cold water pipe.
  
  
• 4). Push the washing machine in against the wall and position it where you want it. Adjust or shim the feet so that it sits firmly on the floor.
  
  
• 5). Plug in the washing machine.
