What Can I Spray on a Mattress to Stop Mildew From Spreading?
- 1). Spray the mattress with a water-repellent spray. These sprays coat the surface of the fabric with a protective water-resistant chemical that prevents mildew from growing on the surface and spreading to other areas.
- 2). Spray the mattress with lemon juice. The acidity in the juice will kill the mildew and prevent it from spreading. Sprinkle a handful of salt on the mildew to absorb the moisture, and then lay the mattress in the sun to dry. Wipe the mattress with a damp cloth to remove the juice and salt.
- 3). Make a mixture of 1 tablespoon of sodium perborate powder with 1 pint of water in a spray bottle. Spray the mattress and let the mixture soak for 30 minutes. Wipe the mattress with a damp cloth after and allow it to dry.
- 4). Make a mixture of 2 tablespoon of chlorine bleach with 1 quart of warm water. Spray the mattress and allow the mixture to soak for five to 15 minutes. Wipe the mattress with a damp cloth and allow it to dry.
- 5). Make a mixture of 1 cup of rubbing alcohol and 1 cup of water. Spray the mattress with the mixture and wipe it with a cloth. Allow the mattress to dry thoroughly.
