ADHD Selfies

What is this new craze and phrase spreading the media streams? It's Selfies! A smartphone tilted at just the right angle ( apparently pose is important) and you're on your way to twitter, Instagram, Facebook or wherever the internet may take you.
It's been said, the worse the picture, the better the "selfie!" We put ourselves out there for "likes" and public scrutiny.
It's a digital craze! Just type "selfie" into the Twitter search bar.
Or take a look at Instagram, where over 90m photos are currently posted with the hashtag #me.
I am not sure what feelings are conjured up by putting ourselves "on public display" and the need to be seen by the world, but "a recent study out of the U.
K.
found that the selfie phenomenon may be damaging to real world relationships, concluding that both excessive photo sharing and sharing photos of a certain type-including self-portraits-makes people less likeable.
The same study found that increased frequency of sharing self-portraits is related to a decrease in intimacy with others.
" So where is the connection of this craze to those living with ADHD? For those of you who follow me loyally on my Facebook, Newsletter and webpage, ( I thank you) you are familiar with the frequency on how I stress the importance of celebration and positive reinforcement to ADHD teens.
Every Friday on my Facebook's "Daily Dose" is Feel Good Friday, a day I emphasize you celebrate your child' successes.
The level of self esteem in the ADHD child is such a key piece of the puzzle and is affected easily by both positive or negative occurrences.
To build, rebuild or maintain a high level of self esteem in the ADHD child is a key link to awareness and ultimately acceptance of living with ADHD.
But, let's not wait till Friday! Every day and frequently throughout the day should be an #adhd selfie for your child and a time to celebrate even the simplest task, chore, grade and behavior.
Use the digital craze to your advantage! Find a time each and every day to find out from your child "what went right today or what did you do well?" Focus on these consistently and amazingly, your child will begin to look at his/her own "selfie" and start to focus on the positive so it can be shared with you! Use that HUGE billboard in your kitchen(refrigerator) as a billboard of success and post #adhd selfies each and every day! Celebrate #ADHD Selfies!
