How to Reduce Air Travel for Cost Effectiveness
- 1). Travel by bus or train whenever possible. It may seem like these methods would waste time, but if your destination is close enough, they could actually save you the time it takes to get through two airports, and without all that stress.
- 2). Plan trips to reduce trips. If your business is in California and you need to travel to New York City twice in a short period of time, see if there is a way to combine both trips into just one visit.
- 3). Conduct meetings through video conferencing. According to the David Suzuki Foundation, many companies, such as Swiss Re and IKEA, have already done this to cut costs. As technology becomes more advanced, the world becomes a smaller place. A week-long trip to another country can easily be reduced to a few clicks of the mouse and an hour in front of a video camera.
- 4). Talk more on the phone. It might not seem as glamorous as a video conference, but it sure is cheaper than flying on a plane.
- 5). Be candid and honest with yourself when you are planning a business trip. Do you really need to take the trip, or do you just want to get away from the office for a few days? Think about the current financial state of your business and the future financial state.
