How to Skip a Jig Under a Dock
- 1). Assume a position on the shore or in a boat that is facing the dock. Determine your distance and adjust your position until you are within a comfortable casting range. Distances between 10 to 20 feet are normal for skipping.
- 2). Examine the dock and determine the likely areas for fish. Look for the shade lines, additional logs and cover beneath the dock and look to the end of the dock for depth.
- 3). Make a sidearm cast with a low rod tip position. The rod tip is less than three feet from the surface for a skipping cast. Cast the jig horizontally and at a high velocity to skip it under the cover.
- 4). Touch the brake on the baitcasting reel or flip the bail on a spinning reel to stop the lure at the target point. Allow it to drop into the cover for three or more seconds and begin the retrieve.
