You may have never have heard off temporary car insurance before and may be wondering what all the fuss is about.
If you want to know how a temporary car policy can help you then read on.
Temp cover or temporary insurance is a way to insure yourself to drive for a short period of time.
There are now many insurers in the UK that offer this type of coverage where once it was only available from a few specialist insurers.
Coverage can be anything from a single day all the way up to 8 months, this actually cover two types of policy.
The first type of policy is the daily insurance policy, this can provide temporary coverage for between 1 and 28 days.
You may be thinking why you would want to get insured for such a short length of time.
The fact is that every day situations occur where you need to be insured but you only need to be covered for a day or a few days.
You may be borrowing a friend or relatives vehicle, you will not usually be automatically covered to drive their car unless you are added to the policy as a named driver.
Many people are not too keen on doing this because firstly it is a hassle and secondly there is a risk you may be involved in an accident and have to claim on their policy.
Many drivers do not want to lose their no claims as this can mean the cost of them getting insurance can sky rocket.
With a temporary daily policy you get your own separate cover and so will not affect the coverage of your friend or relatives policy.
This is a useful feature considering cars are not the only vehicles that can be covered by this type of insurance.
Vans are also covered, this is great if you are moving house or need to pick up or drop off a large domestic appliance like a fridge, freezer, oven or large screen TV.
This type of policy can be taken up to 28 days consecutively but if you need longer coverage you can get this with a pay as you go monthly car insurance policy.
This works slightly differently in that you insure yourself a month at a time and can cancel the policy when you no longer need it.
Don't worry, there are no cancellation fees and the premium that you pay stays the same every month.
So you can see how you do not have to rely on an annual policy and can get coverage from a single day up to a total of 8 months continuously.
It is a great way of insuring yourself to drive someone else's car or even your own.
