Sports League Insurance—make Sure You Are Covered
They were the only three words I could remember in the moment the softball buzzed by my left ear—Sports liability insurance. And maybe it's because I am myself an insurance agent, but when I looked out over the baseball diamond filled with middle aged men running about on rickety legs, all I could think of was the potential for something bad to happen out there; an awkward slide into second, an errant line drive toward an absent minded left fielder, or even a freak lightening storm. It could all go wrong very, very quickly. And if you're the one running the league, you better make sure that everyone on that field is covered.
Both adult and kid sports leagues are starting in places all over. Almost every day of the week there could be some kind of activity happening, from adult softball to kids baseball and soccer. It seems my own kid is never quite out of season. Again, I'm an insurance salesman, so I would be lying if I said all those potential sports liability insurance policies didn't make me salivate a little.
But on a serious note, it is inevitable when we are talking about any form of physical activity; injuries and accidents happen. If you are putting any kind of league together, not only should you cover the players, but you need to keep all the coaches, spectators and even the facility owners in mind. Having everyone, from players to fans, covered when an accident happens can be assured with comprehensive sports liability insurance.
I got lucky when that softball missed. Our team didn't get the out, but at least I didn't take a line drive to the head, and everybody was okay. But that may not always be the case. The reason I play sports is to relax, to be physically challenged, and to have fun in the process. The "what ifs" shouldn't be a worry when you should be having fun. What if something goes wrong? What if somebody gets injured? Not having to worry over all of those things would give me peace of mind if I wanted to host an event. Everyone will be covered with the right sports liability insurance giving you peace of mind.
