How to Use Rock Pavers
- 1). Choose a place to put the path. Create a rock paver path on a parking strip to provide a path from the curb to the sidewalk, make a path that leads from the front yard to the backyard, or set rock pavers around or through a garden.
- 2). Buy rocks that meet your landscaping needs. Granite, the hardest stone, comes in a variety of colors including black, gray and white. Bedrock provides a natural look as a gray flat rock. Use flagstone if you want pavers with a smooth surface. Choose rocks that are no more than 4 inches thick. Any thicker results in extra digging. Use rock pavers at least 12 inches long and wide.
- 3). Place the pavers along the chosen path. Space pavers no more than 4 inches apart. You should be able to easily step on each paver as you walk.
- 4). Dig a hole the size of the paver both in area and thickness. Smooth the bottom of hole but do not pack down the dirt. The rock needs to sink into the dirt a little so that it won't move when stepped on.
- 5). Fit the rock paver into the hole. Fill in the sides around the paver with loose dirt. Make sure the paver is flush to the rest of the ground. You can place rock pavers directly on the ground without digging a hole. However, loose pavers wobble when stepped on and cause a tripping hazard.
