How to Make Money Recycling Aluminum in Texas

    • 1). Check cans to be sure they have a recycling symbol. According to the Obviously Recycle Guides website, there have been experiments to create steel and plastic can that look like aluminum. These are not normally accepted for recycling.

    • 2). Ask local businesses if you can set up trash cans or boxes for aluminum cans. Assure them that you will come to empty them at least once a week at an agreed-upon time. Businesses that have their own vending machines and employee break rooms are good choices.

    • 3). Search areas that have large crowds of people, such as outdoor park concerts and parades. Check local newspapers and websites such as Texas Outside that list outdoor events in the state. Be sure to get permission to pick up cans if you are planning to attend a private event.

    • 4). Clean any aluminum foil and empty filled cans. Crush your cans with your foot (in a shoe, of course) or a can crusher and load them in plastic bags. Store them in a garage or shed until you have enough to make the trip to the recycling center worthwhile.

    • 5). Call around to different area recycling centers and scrap metal businesses to find which ones pay for aluminum and how much they pay per pound. Normally different Texas centers have varying rates. Some centers only accept paper or plastic products and some will only take donations.
