Comparison Between Wood Adhesives and Construction Adhesives

103 7
As their name suggests wood adhesives are used by woodworkers.
They are basically water-based products and have polyvinyl acetate as one of their primary ingredients.
These cementing agents are used for furniture making, cabinetry and other similar jobs where creating a sturdy and permanent bond between two pieces of wood is important.
Construction adhesives, on the other hand, are rubber-based products.
They are elastic in nature and often contain water as one of their primary constituents.
They are capable of creating strong bonds instantly when used for attaching two dry surfaces together.
The section below includes a more detailed comparison between these two adhesive types.
A wood adhesive either comes as yellow glue or white glue.
The ingredients of both of these glue types are same; but, the yellow one requires less time to dry up.
When completely dry, this cementing material takes the shape of an inflexible and hard substance.
The dried form of construction adhesive is moderately hard and slightly flexible.
According to experts, using a wood adhesive is a must if you want the manufactured item to have a rigid finish.
Examples of woodwork that should always involve use of this glue type are: fixing a broken chair leg, attaching a new shelf to your wooden cupboard etc.
You should opt for construction adhesives when performing pasting jobs like attaching tiles to the floor.
When using this type of cementing agent, you will never feel the need of clamping; just pressing the objects you want to attach will do the job for you.
Now, let us discuss about the drying time required by the above mentioned glue types.
The majority of the manufacturers offer wood adhesives in squeeze bottles made from plastic.
The market houses wood adhesives of different drying time; the label on the bottle should have the drying time of that particular product mentioned on it.
While some products require 30 minutes to dry up partially and one full day or 24 hours for reaching full strength, there are products that do not take more than 5 minutes for partial drying.
The fast drying glues also require 24 hours for creating sturdy bonds.
Next, we will be informing you about the drying time of construction adhesives.
These adhesives are usually marketed in tubes, which come equipped with gun-like applicators.
You will need to shoot the glue out from the tubes using the specially designed applicator.
The glue might take several hours for drying up completely.
The exact drying time tends to vary from one product to another depending on the ingredients they contain.
