Plumbing Crimp Tools

    • Pipes and tubing used for plumbing must not only hold water, but must also withstand extremes in temperatures. For instance, one common material used for pipes is made of cross-linked polyethylene, or PEX. This compound is the ideal substance for indoor and underground water systems because of its resistance to hot and cold temperatures. However, pipes made of PEX cannot be used for pipes that are outdoors because sunlight renders them ineffective. Because pipes are utilized in so wide a range of applications and locations, appropriate tools are needed for installation and repairs.

    Crimp Jaw

    • Crimp jaws are used with PEX pipe crimpers and crimp rings. Most novice plumbers believe that a connection which has been crimped is permanent. However, a crimp jaw can remove a crimp without damage to the pipe.

    Crimp Ring

    • Crimp rings are used to bend pipes which are made of either PEX , brass or copper. Plumbers use a crimp ring, along with a crimping tool, to make precise bends in tight spaces. Crimp rings can compress the pipe without too much pressure, which can cause breakage. Crimp rings are preferred when it is more convenient to crimp, rather than cut and solder, a pipe or tube.

    Elbow

    • An elbow is a tool used for making sharp 90-degree turns. A common application for which an elbow is used is to add or replace shower heads. The elbow, like the crimp ring, works with a crimp tool and clamps, which are available in a preassembled crimping system. Elbows are made of brass, PEX and poly alloy. They are also known as brass PEX fittings and crimp fittings.
