What to Do When Your Golden Retriever Won"t Leave You Alone to Eat in Peace

There is nothing worse then sitting down at the table with your family enjoying a hot, yummy meal together and having your beloved friend start off by staring at you, only to find a few minutes later their head is in your lap, and they're leaving a massive amount of drool over you.
If this is happening to you, you need to keep reading on as I will be giving you 2 proven methods you can use today to be left alone while you are eating.
Method 1: Dog Bed By having a dog bed near by and using a solid stay command, you will eventually be able to train your golden retriever that when it is time for you to eat, its time for he/she to go lay on their bed.
If you pick this method ensure that when you have finished eating, that you go and reward your friend by giving them a small treat.
Your golden needs to associate more pleasure for staying in the bed while you are eating, then to getting out and drooling all over you.
Method 2: Ignore This method is effective but can be slightly harder to pull off successfully because of their darn cuteness.
So what you do is when your golden retriever comes over to stare, or rests their head on you, you completely ignore them.
I mean no talking to him/her, no eye contact, absolutely nothing.
(It is for that reason why this method can be slightly harder to pull off.
It needs a fair amount of dedication and persistence on your part to make this successful).
Also you need to keep your emotions in-check, so no getting annoyed or frustrated as your friend will pick up on this.
What generally happens after ignoring them is that they will start getting bored, and will eventually lay down.
Some will even take a nap.
Give them a quick pat or scratch as a reward for doing the right thing, though if he/she looked up, begin ignoring them again.
At the end of the day golden retrievers are really smart animals, so fortunately with enough persistence and determination on your part, soon enough they will learn what you are wanting them to do, and will leave you along to enjoy your dinner with the family in peace.
