How To Become An Expert In Your Field - Tips On Attaining Expert Status Through Books And Speaking
The best way, in my opinion, to be viewed as an expert is to write a book on your topic and use yourself as a case study. I have done this twice with excellent results. Start taking regular notes on what you are achieving, and then turn these notes into articles, blog posts, and short reports that can finally be put together as a book. With the recent availability of so many outlets for self-publishing, you will have your choice for publishing and distribution, including Amazon's Create Space program for paperback books and Kindle and Nook for digital versions. I would not recommend that you sell your book as an eBook on a separate web page because this would detract from what you want to accomplish here. Stick with the more acceptable distribution channels for fast and effective results.
Next, begin speaking about your topic. Start with local venues, such as Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, Chambers of Commerce, and trade association meetings. Prepare a short presentation and a handout to use at these meetings. Then move on to Internet radio by letting people know that you are available to be interviewed on your area of expertise. You may want to hire an assistant to help you get booked, or use social media to reach out to those who would be interested in hosting you.
Finally, begin hosting your own teleseminars. I did this each week for eighteen months when I was getting started, and continue to do it once or twice a month to stay connected with my prospects and clients. Allowing people to hear your voice is the next best thing to being there in person to look them in the eye and shake their hand.
You will find that the more you read, write, and talk about your topic, the greater knowledge and understanding you will have about it. It won't take long for you to be considered a foremost leader in your field.
