How to Improve a Cell Phone's Internal Antenna

    • 1). Add an external antenna to your phone. There are a number of cellphone boosters on the market that are designed to interact with the internal antenna to increase overall reception. Some units will simply plug into the phone while others come with antennas that are applied nearby and then send a signal from an added antenna to the phone itself.

    • 2). Place your phone on speakerphone so you can still be heard as you maneuver the phone into a position that results in a more clear conversation. This repositions the antenna to optimize the phone performance, something very difficult to do if you have to hold the phone to your ear to speak and be heard.

    • 3). Attach a paperclip to your phone's external antenna jack if it has one and you don't have a booster handy. One part of the paperclip will fit into the jack while the other portion should be bend at a 90-degree angle and secured to the back of the phone with a piece of electrical tape. This does run a risk of shorting out your phone and may void your warranty but it can increase your antenna strength in an emergency.
