    • 1). Locate the NI (Network Interface), which is the where the house wiring joins with the wiring coming from the street. Drill a small 3/8 inch hole though the exterior wall. If masonry use the masonry bit, if wood, use the wood bit.

    • 2). Using the fish tape to feed the wire, route the Cat 5 cable through the exterior hole through interview hole where the phone jack box will be located.

    • 3). At the NI, strip the sheathing back on the wire about 6 inches to reveal the stranded pair wire. There will be four pairs of wire consisting of blue pair, green pair, brown pair, and orange pair. Attach the blue pair (blue/white) to the post in the NI as marked. Fold back the unused wiring.

    • 4). Looking inside the phone jack box you will notice several short wire going to various pins. Typically these are red/green or black/yellow combinations. Green equals tip one, red equals ring one. If a second line is used the black equals tip two and Yellow equals ring two. Cut the wire to the appropriate length and strip back the outer sheath. Strip the wire to reveal the copper wire. Attach the Solid blue wire to the red wire and tighten the screw. Attach the blue/white striped wire to the green wire and tighten the screw. Fold back the unused wiring.

    • 5). Plug the phone in an test for dial tone. If there is no dial tone, recheck all the connections at the jack and NI and make sure they are tight. Make sure there are no cut or bare wire touch each other and shorting out. Finally, check to make sure at each connection the wire is stripped back enough to make a good connection with the screw and posts.

    • 6). Mount the phone jack box to the wall with the included screws and push any extra wire back into the wall.

    • 7). Caulk the exterior wall around the hole and wire to ensure no rain or bugs can enter the wall.
