How to Troubleshoot a Totaline Programmable Thermostat
- 1). Set the "System" switch to the "Off" position if you see a low battery warning on your Totaline thermostat.
- 2). Open the battery compartment, remove the old batteries and insert two fresh AAA alkaline batteries. Reinstall the battery compartment cover and turn on your thermostat. Replace the batteries once a year.
- 3). Check your heater or air conditioning unit's circuit breakers if your thermostat's display is blank. The circuit breakers are usually located inside an electrical panel next to the outdoor heat pump or condensing unit. Once you've located the circuit breakers, turn them off and then turn them back on to reset them.
- 4). Check your furnace's door and make sure it is properly closed if your thermostat's screen is still blank.
- 5). Make sure the thermostat "System" switch is on if you are unable to change the settings. Adjust the settings on your thermostat and make sure they fall within the following ranges:
Heat: 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, or 4.5 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius.
Cool: 50 degrees Fahrenheit to 99 degrees Fahrenheit, or 10 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius. - 6). Wait a few minutes for the compressor protection delay to end if the "Cool" or "Heat" symbol is flashing. After five minutes, the delay will end.
- 7). Replace your thermostat if you see an "E1" or "E2" error code on your screen. These codes appear when the sensor circuit is opened or shorted.
