The W900 is a model of Kenworth truck designed for heavy-duty and long-haul operations. The W900 was first produced in 1976. Recognizable by its distinct "long nose" design, the W900 was one of the first trucks to feature luxury items such as double beds, a refrigerator and extra clothes storage space. The basic design of the W900 was expanded upon in 1985 with Kenworth's T600, which was based on the same chassis but featured a more aerodynamic design. Both the traditional and aerodynamic Kenworth designs continue to be built today.

    Engine

    • The 2005 Kenworth W900 uses a diesel engine built by Cummins. This engine, designated the "ISX" model, produces approximately 475 horsepower. Even with this power, the Cummins ISX is designed to be fuel efficient, and is certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for meeting the 2.5-gram emissions standard.

    Wheelbase

    • The W900 uses the Kenworth AG-400 air-ride suspension system. This allows the suspension be be tuned to different load amounts. The W900 is tandem-axle, and has a wheelbase of 260 inches. The tire size is 24.5 inches. Power steering is standard.

    Sleeper

    • The W900 comes standard with a sleeper area for the driver. Several different sizes and configurations of sleeper are available, ranging from 38 inches to 86 inches in width. On W900 trucks equipped with large sleepers, a 42-inch mattress is available for comfortable sleeping.

    Fifth Wheel

    • The coupling piece that allows trailers to be attached to the W900, called the fifth wheel, is an Airslide type. This heavy-duty coupling bracket is able to slide forward and backward, allowing the mount to be precisely adjusted with minimal effort.
