How to Use Electronic Calipers
- 1). Wipe the object being measured with a clean cloth. Unlock the locking screw at the top of the electronic caliper. Slide open the caliper's jaws and clean them with the cloth.
- 2). Close the caliper jaws completely once they are cleaned. Press the "On/Off" button to power on the electronic caliper. Press the "Zero" button if the LCD display reads anything other than "0.000" to zero the calipers.
- 3). Close the flat edges of the large outer caliper jaws around an object to measure an outside dimension. Insert the smaller inner jaws at the top of the caliper into a hole, notch or groove to measure inner dimensions. Stand the right, flat end of the caliper on the top of a hole or step and slide the caliper jaws open to lower a depth rod from the end of the caliper. Use just enough force for all measurements that the caliper touches the object firmly, but gently, and keep the caliper as square to the object as possible.
- 4). Read the number on the LCD display, which is the measured value of the dimension. Press the "mm/in" button to change the display between millimeters and inches.
- 5). Remove the object from the jaws and slide the caliper shut. Press the "On/Off" button to turn off the electronic calipers. Tighten the locking screw if desired.
