Wines That Rock
The annual Sun WineFest at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, is the state's largest wine and food event and a welcome escape from winter in New England.
During the afternoon I spent at Sun WineFest '11, I sampled 13 wines and a 10 Cane rum mojito. Yes, I slept well that night! I chose many of the wines I tasted the same way I tend to choose race horses: by their intriguing names! I'm often tempted to buy these cleverly labeled wines at the package store, but I figure they are probably more style than substance. This proved true in the case of the Rolling Stones-themed Forty Licks wine poured at WineFest by Wines That Rock.
This nondescript red wasn't memorable, but at least it wasn't awful like Red Cat, marketed as "the original hot tub wine" by Hazlitt Vineyards in New York's Finger Lakes region.
