    • 1). Save your music and other iPod files. When you transfer from a PC to a Mac, iTunes will require you to wipe the data from your iPod, so back it up before proceeding. You can extract your files from the iPod using a program like Senuti, TouchCopy or iRip; if the files exist in your current iTunes library, you can copy them onto blank DVDs or flash drives.

    • 2). Transfer your music files to your Mac. Plug in your flash drive or insert your DVD-R into the disc drive; in a few seconds the device will show up on the desktop. Double-click it to open the folder, highlight the files with your mouse and drag them directly onto the iTunes icon to save them in the iTunes Library. If you do not see iTunes on the Apple dock on your desktop, click the hard drive icon in the upper-right corner of your screen and click the "Applications" folder. You will find iTunes among the applications, as it comes standard with all Mac OS X editions.

    • 3). Connect your iPod to the Mac using your iPod USB cable. Connect the USB connector to your Mac USB port, and connect the opposite end of the cable to your iPod.

    • 4). Click the "Restore" button on the pop-up window that appears. When your Mac detects the iPod as an unfamiliar device, it will display a dialogue box with the words "iPod Updater," and ask you if you want to restore your device. Restoring will erase the content on your hard drive. If you do not restore, however, you will not have the ability to use your iPod on the Mac.

    • 5). Click "Restore" a second time. After you click the first "Restore" button, a warning window will appear, asking you to confirm your decision. When you click the second "Restore" button, the process will begin, and should take no longer than a minute or two. When the process concludes, click the "Quit" button on the pop-up window to close the navigation menu and automatically launch iTunes.

    • 6). Enter your information in the "iTunes Setup Assistant" window. After iTunes launches, a new pop-up window will ask you to enter a name for your iPod, choose your uploading preferences, register the device if necessary and enter your Apple ID and password. Since you previously used iTunes on a PC, enter the same ID and password that you used before.

    • 7). Click to highlight the "iPod" icon in the left column of your iTunes browser, and then click the "Sync" button in the lower right corner of the browser. Wait as iTunes copies all your files back onto your iPod. After the process concludes, you can safely eject your iPod by clicking the triangular button beside the "iPod" icon.
