The main function of a bed wetting alarm is to alert the user when there is any form of moisture in a child's underwear.
They usually come in two parts a sensor which is usually placed in the underwear and an alarm which is set off when the sensor picks up any excess moisture.
There are currently 3 types of the alarm available.
One can be worn by the child, the other is a wireless device and the third is a modified bed pad which has the sensors in it.
They are all programmed to alarm or vibrate once the child has wet themselves.
That main aim of the products is to get the wearer to get up and go to the bathroom when the bladder is full.
It is one thing to get the device but it is another thing to get the child to use it effectively.
You have to take the steps to ensure that this is done.
First you have to explain to the child why it is that you are getting the device.
Assure them that it is to help them to get better bladder control.
Involve them in the shopping process so that they can choose the color that they prefer and the alarm types.
Let the child know that once the alarm goes off they are to hold their urine in and go to the bathroom to finish the process.
After this they can clean up and go back to bed.
That is the only way it will work effectively.
You will realize over a period that they will be getting up with less frequency as a result of the alarm going off.
As long as the child is okay with the bed wetting alarm and its purpose the process of curing bed wetting can get underway.
