World of Warcraft Can Save Your Life

Computer games can be highly addictive. Every parent in this age of technology fears their child may be spending too much time on a computer. Being concerned that a child does not develop obsessive or compulsive behaviour around computerized gaming is often wise. The increasing numbers of overweight kids in this day and age has risen in direct proportion to the rise in computer usage in the home. This leads to less exercise and tiredness - which in turn leads to less exercise!

Unfortunately this phenomenon is not isolated and most adults are suffering a similar fate. The computer is very often to blame for this situation with adults as it is for children.

Although this all sounds rather depressing it isn't all bad. After all the personal computer has made our lives a lot easier and brought with it many benefits.

The vast majority of people (who don't play them) believe that computer games are either just harmless entertainment or just a complete waste of time and not very mentally stimulating. However there may be cause to think otherwise, at least as far as one very popular computer game goes.

World of Warcraft is the best known video game that has been given a very bad rap. The creators of the game, Blizzard, have come under increasing fire over the years for creating a game that is said to be so addictive it leads to the break-down of marriages and even lives. Some very dedicated WoW gamers have been known to spend 24 hour periods playing without rest or food (although it should be noted that these are extreme cases and very rare).

The more sever cases of World of Warcraft addiction only occur to people who are predisposes to addictive behaviour. Many display addictive personality traits and their addictive nature latches onto world of warcraft.

From the eleven million players who are current subscribed to Blizzard accounts almost all of them play world of warcraft in moderation and just as a fun pastime.

However, there is evidence that shows world of warcraft is no ordinary computer game. In fact business leaders have admitted that certain aspects of the game help players develop key team and managerial skills that are very desirable in the business world.

The following story also shows how playing world of warcraft can come in very handy and even help children develop real world skills.

Take 12 year old Norwegian Hans Olsen who is an avid WoW gamer. Hans found himself in a very dangerous situation when a moose attacked his sister. Although the moose attack was fast so was Hans.

The moose's first target was Han's younger sister. He used a ploy known in WoW as taunting where he deliberately drew the attention of the attacking moose to himself so his sister could get away.

Then with the moose's unwanted and aggressive attention firmly fixed on him Hans used another WoW tactic and feigned death. Frightened but determined to survive Hans employed another world of warcraft tactic that he had successful deployed many times within the game - he pretended to be dead! Luckily for Hans the moose "bought into" his tactic and thinking its territory was no longer in danger it lost interest and wandered off.
