A Look Into The WoW Achievement system

The achievement system is a new addition to WoW along with the WOTLK expansion. It is a new feature that lets you track yours and other players progress through the World of Warcraft. There are achieves ranging from extremely hard to goofy and simplistic. The purpose is to add a little more flavor to the game.

In the end, there isn't really any point in trying to get all the achievements other than to say you did it. Not every achieve is worth anything. In fact, most of them don't give you anything other than achievement points. These points aren't worth anything; they just show your progress with the achievement system itself.

Some achievements you will do just by playing the game, like leveling your char, each milestone level is an achievement, 10, 20, 30, and so on till 80. Others take lots of time and effort in order to complete. One in particular, the "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" achieve can only be completed after 1 year of work minimum. It is given to you after you have completed all of the seasonal events on the list that go on throughout the year, and if you miss one you will have to wait another year to complete! From completing that one you get the "Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake" which is a 310% speed flying mount. These types of mounts are rare and are worth the effort.

What the system has become to the players is a gauge of where people are at as far as raiding and pvp. You gain achievements from killing bosses and progressing in the arena ladder. If you do not have some of these, people will not invite you into raids or arena teams. Sometime people are really strict about these things but that's just how it goes. Especially when it comes to VOA, if you have not killed the latest boss once, you might find yourself out of luck with most pug groups.
