How do I Word Wedding Stationary?

    • 1). Decide who the invitation is from. Traditionally, the parents of the bride make the invitation, but the invitation may be from both the bride's parents and the groom's or from the married couple themselves, a single parent, a single parent on one side and two parents on the other side, or some other combination of hosts.

    • 2). Choose a request. " ... request the honor of your presence to celebrate the marriage of (bride) and (groom) ..." or "... request the presence of (name of guest) to celebrate the marriage of (bride) and (groom) ..." are popular, formal greetings.

For a more informal feel, you might say: "Come join (bride's parents) and (groom's parents) on the joyous occasion of the marriage of their children (bride) and (groom)." Alternately, to keep it simple, you might say "(inviters) invite you to attend the marriage of (bride) and (groom)." If the invitee is allowed to bring a guest, write his name followed by "and Guest."

    • 3). Note the location where the service is being performed, the date and time, followed by the location of the reception with its date and time.

    • 4). Put it all together. For example, a formal invitation issued by both sets of parents might read:

Bill and Judy Bridesfolk and Roger and Carole Groomsfamily request the presence of Killgore Wassere and Guest to celebrate the marriage of Bridgette Bridesfolk and Grue Groomsfamily at The Fellowship of Humanity, Oakland, California on November 31st at 12 pm and afterwards at the Albany Bulb in Albany, California at 3:30 pm.

    • 5). Include an RSVP card in an open return envelope where the guest can check whether he can come. You might also include a choice of meal options that the guest may select. For example, the above invite might have an RSVP card that says:

      Killgore Wassere

      __ graciously accepts

      __ regretfully declines

      Please include meal selection:

      __ tofu a la king

      __ seitan infernal

      __ breaded halibut

    • 6). Print an external envelope with the titles and surnames of the guests and an internal envelope with the titles and full names of the guests. Place the wedding invite in the internal envelope and put the internal envelope and the RSVP in the external envelope.

For the example above, the external envelope would read "Mr. Wassere and Guest" followed by a mailing address. The internal would read "Mr. Killgore Wassere and Guest."
