How to Kill a Tree's Woody Stump
- 1). Protect your hands with a pair of rubber gloves, and then add 1 part caustic soda and 2 parts water to a small bucket. For example, if you add 3 cups of caustic soda, dilute it with 6 cups of water.
- 2). Stir together the water and caustic soda in the bucket.
- 3). Bore 1/4-inch holes all over the surface of the woody stump. The holes should be spaced about 4 inches apart.
- 4). Empty the bucket of caustic soda and water over the entire woody stump. If you did not make enough of the mixture to soak the stump, prepare another batch, and cover the remainder of the stump.
- 5). Reapply the caustic soda and water mixture to the stump once every three days until the stump becomes soft enough to remove with a garden shovel.
