Kinect for Xbox 360
So first off, I make it a point not to ever buy first generation gaming consoles/systems of any kind unless they are for review.
And this one being Microsoft I was especially leary as I have not had good luck with their products in the past, mainly the Xbox 360 which happens to be my favorite gaming platform.
So,owning the Wii I was already hesitant to buy a system that basically does the same thing.
I had even read a few reviews but I was still being urged by my children to get the Kinect simply because well, their friends already had it and if I wanted to miss out on their childhood because they were spending all their free time at their friends homes I had better order it asap.
So I did.
I was happily surprised at the quick setup.
Not that I had expected it to be as complicated as my home surround sound but I was happy I had it done in a mere couple minutes.
I think I spent more time moving furniture in the game room than actually setting the game up.
As for playability.
It was exactly what i thought it was.
We played the Kinect Sports and had a blast.
I was sprawled out on the floor huffing and puffing in no time.
The kids can play for hours on end and they get exercise at the same time so I am a fan.
I'm more of a controller game player because I don't like to exercise when I play my video games so I was more than happy to sit and watch them.
My wife suggested we get the Your Shape games so we could work out with the games.
Again,I don't know if I like the idea of mixing my game time with exercise but seeing as I have been gaming more and exercising less these days i may have to spend more time with the Kinect.
I watched as my kids played for about two hours and saw no glitches.
After I wrestled the game from them I decided to try its online functionality.
I was pleasantly surprised,No lag time and it was very responsive.
I was expecting less but I was happy I was proven wrong,My favorite game was boxing.
I spent an hour throwing haymakers and two days recovering.
Overall I'm very happy with the Kinect.
It isn't a cutting edge new tech type game but it wasn't marketed as such.
I think the Wii is more user friendly for little children.
From what I can tell, my children got the hang of the game but it took some time.
And last but not least, you will need ample room to play the Kinect.
If you have a small room you will have problems playing.
Have fun with your Kinect!I did and found I needed more exercise in my life.
