Do It Yourself Polishing
- You can polish most pieces of furniture by spraying the surface with a cleaning agent (such as Pledge and Endust) and then wipe a piece of cloth in a circular motion to remove dust and provide a new shine. You may want to try a higher end cleaning solvent such as Ethan Allen on more expensive and antique items and polish along the grain of the wood.
- Remove all the silverware from the cabinet or box they are stored in. Clean the box of any lint or debris that later could get on the silverware. Put the silver in hot water. Gently dry it with a clean cloth. Apply silver polish and rub vigorously with an applicator until clean. Return the silver to its storage place.
- Plastic parts of a car--the door handles, dashboard and console--can be polished using an interior car polish. Spray the polish onto a cloth and rub it into the parts that need to be cleaned. Don't spray the polish inside the car; it can get on windows or upholstery.
