How to Remove Mildew and Mold From a Boat
- 1). Empty the floor of all items and accessories. If mold has developed in or under any carpeting, this must be pulled up and thrown away.
- 2). Clean the floors and other affected surfaces. Mix a cleaning solution of 1 part household detergent, 5 parts water. Use a stiff bristled brush to scrub surfaces vigorously. Use cleaning solution liberally.
- 3). Clean up the soapy floors and surfaces. Use old newspapers to soak up the dirty water. Scrub the surfaces a second time, but this time use clean water only. The point is to remove any lingering detergent. Let dry completely. Time will vary depending on conditions.
- 4). Treat the floor and other surfaces with marine mildew remover. This can be purchased in any boat accessory catalog, and is deployed with a spray bottle. Let the spray soak in for three minutes, then rub with a clean sponge to spread it evenly over the surface affected.
- 5). Rinse mildew remover off the boat after five minutes. Use a clean sponge and water to accomplish this. Let the surface dry fully before replacing mats, carpets, accessories, etc.
