How to Get WIC in Michigan
- 1). Determine whether you are eligible to receive WIC vouchers. You may meet household eligibility if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have children under the age of five. In addition, you must live in Michigan and meet income requirements. If you receive Medicaid or food stamps, you already meet income requirements. If you do not receive these state benefits, you may still qualify for WIC if your income is at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level.
- 2). Call your local Michigan WIC agency, or call 1-800-26-BIRTH to schedule a certification appointment.
- 3). Gather documents for your appointment. You must prove your household income and the identity and address of yourself and your children who need WIC benefits. Examples of documents to bring include pay stubs, birth certificates for your children, your photo ID, a copy of your lease agreement and a utility bill sent to your current address. In addition, you must bring immunization records for your children.
- 4). Attend your certification appointment. A WIC counselor will review your income and household information, as well as conduct basic health screenings for program participants. The WIC counselor uses this information to determine if you are eligible for WIC food vouchers.
