    • 1). Disconnect the microwave's power supply, either by turning off the breaker in your service panel or unplugging the wall from the power outlet.

    • 2). Unscrew the screws located at the top of the grille on the front of the microwave, and then remove the grille.

    • 3). Slide the charcoal filter, which is flat, silver and located in the upper compartment of the microwave, to the left, and then pull it straight out of the microwave to remove. If your microwave is vented out of the house, skip this step as no charcoal filter is installed.

    • 4). Unscrew the screw holding the oven light cover into position, and then remove the light cover from the microwave.

    • 5). Rotate the light bulb counterclockwise to unscrew it from the socket, and then remove. If replacing a halogen bulb, pull the bulb straight out of the light socket, rather than unscrewing it.

    • 6). Insert the new light bulb into the light socket and then rotate it clockwise until tight. Alternatively, insert the halogen bulb into the socket. Wearing gloves is important whenever handling a halogen bulb, as the oil from your fingers may shorten the length of the bulb's life.

    • 7). Replace the light cover, and then secure it in the microwave using the screw that was removed.

    • 8). Reinstall the charcoal filter, if applicable to your microwave.

    • 9). Reinstall the front grille, securing it using the two screws that you removed.

Restore the microwave's power supply, by either turning on the breaker in your service panel, or plugging the power cord into the wall outlet.

    • 1). Unplug the microwave's power cord from the wall outlet to disconnect the appliance's power supply. If the power cord is inaccessible, turn off the breaker in your service panel.

    • 2). Locate and then remove the screw or screws securing the light cover or covers to the underside of the microwave, and then lower the light cover. The light cover is hinged and is designed to remain connected to the microwave.

    • 3). Uninstall the light bulb from the light socket. Depending on the type bulb, it either unscrews or pulls straight out of the socket.

    • 4). Install the new bulb into the socket, either by screwing it in or pushing it into the socket. If installing a halogen bulb, do not touch the bulb without wearing gloves.

    • 5). Raise the light cover into position, and then use the screw that you removed to secure it to the underside of the microwave.

    • 6). Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet, or turn on the microwave breaker if it was disconnected.
