Ghosts

• Create a spooky atmosphere by decorating your home with ghosts of a few shapes and sizes. For a row of outdoor ghosts, draw faces on white gallon-sized milk jugs, cut a hole in the back of each one and stuff some miniature white lights inside each jug to illuminate them. For medium-sized ghosts, dip squares of cheesecloth in fabric softener and then drape them over upside-down plastic cups with a small balloon on top to ensure that they dry in a ghost shape. Kids can make tiny ghosts by placing a cotton ball in the middle of a facial tissue, tying a string around the ghost's "neck" and drawing a face on the ghost.
  
  

Pumpkins

• Rather than carving a traditional jack-o-lantern into a pumpkin, use these classic Halloween decorations in different ways. One idea is to display a word via a row of pumpkins by carving one letter onto each pumpkin. As another project, paint the pumpkin white and, after it has dried, add a pattern to it in black paint. Decorate a table with pumpkins by carving out the tops of miniature pumpkins and using them as tea light holders.
  
  

Creepy Animals

• Make bats by taping a small black balloon to a large black balloon, adding wings and ears cut from black card stock and a pair of eyes cut from white or colored card stock. Set up a creepy black cat shadow on your house by pointing an outdoor spot light with an orange or green filter at a cardboard cutout of a cat shape. Make a giant black spider by painting a milk jug black and taping eight pieces of black pipe insulation to it as the legs.
  
  

Spooky Touches

• Decorate your home, inside and out, with a variety of additional details that will make it spookier. Hang fake cobwebs across the corners of rooms or porches. Cut out gravestone shapes from cardboard, paint them to look old, and make up names and epitaphs for them. Draw a faint outline of a person or a spooky shape on a mirror with a bar of white soap.
