And When You Pray, Do Not Use Vain Repetitions - Matthew 6:7
Jesus does not like prayers that are repetitions of prayers we have said before.
Not that we can't ask repeatably for the same thing.
But the Lord does not like repetitious statements in prayer, boastful sorts of things.

OUR TEXT Matthew 6:7 (New King James Version) 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do.
For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
Many people would first look at the Catholic and their weekly service when they read about vain repetitions.
I think people might have a case there, except that this is the person's faith and they cannot attend their church without having to participate in this way of having a service.
I look at vain repetitions as phrases that are used by people in public prayer meetings that will usher in the praise of other people, and if you are at a lively church, this will be immediate with Amen, amen and amen brother.
Such phrases that get an amen are: Jesus thanks so much for dying on the cross for me; Jesus thanks for changing me day by day; Jesus thanks for saving me when I was lost; Jesus I was nothing, indeed without you I am nothing; You get the picture.
These might be fine to say once at one prayer meeting sure, but I have heard people say that in every prayer that they pray in public.
These are vanity.
Jesus isn't even listening as you have already had your amens.
As I said in the last installment I used to be one of the main culprits of this sort of prayer years ago in my youth.
And I know and have heard many other people like me in public prayer meetings.
Jesus is against this sort of prayer and He is not impressed with the length of your prayer, but He is interested in the sincerity.
I can make a very long prayer that will be loved by everyone, but today I would prefer to pray a short one in public that brings true repentance n the hearts of the listeners.
So Jesus says, taking in mind that I don't want you boasting in public prayer, and I don't want long sounding prayers full of repetitious material each week, be assured that your Father knows what you need before you even start to pray.
This means, the Father does not need a long ineffectual prayer, as He already knows your need and can answer it with a short one, so I am going to show you a model way of praying.
Cont to The Lord's prayer in a little detail.
Matthew 6:9-13 I pray that this has taught you something.
Be Blessed,
